As some of you may already know, I recently completed a dissertation on the subject of the perceived politics of Real Madrid and Barcelona, a process which I found absolutely fascinating and learned much from. I had a few requests to publish the project on here a few weeks ago and was initially dismissive, but I’ve had something of a change of heart and have decided to serialise the thesis in four parts over the next week or so.

The first part will consist of the introduction as well as the academic and historical background and will be online later today. There will then follow a section focussing explicitly on Barcelona on Saturday, part three will be published on Tuesday and deals with Real Madrid, the series being rounded off with my conclusions next Friday.

At this stage I would like to point out that, as a piece of academic writing, the series won’t necessarily be in keeping with the rest of the site, so please make allowances for that. I’d also like to take a moment to emphasise my copyright over the work and that it is explicitly not for distribution elsewhere without my permission. I don’t mean to sound like an old curmudgeon, but that bit’s quite important.

Anyway, the first part of ‘To what extent can Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona be considered to have been political institutions in Spain during the twentieth century?‘ will be on the site later today, I hope you enjoy it.
